Representatives of the Center for Energy Analysis participated in the IV international expert conference on electricity buyers-producers "Prozjumer - a significant participant in the Serbian power system", organized by the portal Energija Balkana and Jelica Putniković. At the conference, a presentation was held on international experiences and global trends that shape the development of prosumers.
Global data confirm the increasing role of consumers in modern power systems:
📈 In the last two years (2022-2024), the same solar capacity was installed in the world as in the previous 68 years combined (1954-2022).
🌏 China leads with installations larger than all other countries combined, while in Europe, Germany leads by total capacity and the Netherlands by capacity per capita.
🏠 In the European Union, most new solar systems are installed on household roofs, with an increasing presence of batteries - in Germany, 70% of households have new PV systems, while in Poland, every third household uses batteries.
These trends clearly show that energy is changing from the bottom up – through decentralized, smart and sustainable consumer-led systems. Experiences from the EU can be both an inspiration and a solid basis for shaping the policy of consumer development in Serbia.
📘 More about this soon in our study: "Prosumers in Serbia: Current situation, challenges and recommendations for improvement" , which will offer an analysis of the regulatory, technical and market framework, as well as concrete proposals for the next steps towards the sustainable development of this segment.
We thank the organizers for the opportunity to contribute to this important topic!
