Prosumers in Serbia: Current situation, challenges and recommendations for improvement
The aim of this study is to analyze the current status of prosumers in Serbia, with the aim of identifying key challenges and opportunities for further development.
Although Serbia has significant natural potential, the capacities and number of prosumers in Serbia are still modest, and the development of the prosumer model faces a number of regulatory, technical and economic challenges. Administrative obstacles, insufficiently developed network infrastructure and limited access to financial incentives further slow down the spread of this model.
Nevertheless, the prosumer model brings numerous advantages - from reducing electricity costs and harmful gas emissions to strengthening energy independence and decentralization of the sector. Effective integration of prosumers can contribute to relieving the power grid during peak loads, improve air quality and provide new opportunities for citizens and the economy. Although there are challenges, such as the risk of overloading the network and potential negative effects on the electricity industry, the growing interest of citizens and the laid regulatory foundations indicate a significant potential for further development of this concept.
Based on the analyzes and examples of good practice from abroad, the study formulates concrete short-term, medium-term and long-term improvements in policies and measures that can positively influence the continuous development of the prosumer concept.
